CHARACTER PROFILE
A great deal about Kim Ji-soo’s early life remains unknown, even to many of her closest teammates. What is known is that she spent years traveling the world as an independent investigator, documenting missing-person cases, reports of cryptids, alleged hauntings, and other incidents that conventional authorities were either unable or unwilling to explain. Her investigations became the foundation of a highly successful YouTube channel, bringing her an enormous audience while also providing desperate people with a way to reach someone who might actually believe them.
Kim possesses extensive knowledge of the occult and supernatural worlds. When she first encountered Logan Jenkins, she immediately recognized her as Catalyst, and she can discuss the characteristics, habits, and mystical significance of obscure creatures with the ease of a trained zoologist discussing ordinary animals. Her knowledge appears to have been acquired through a combination of dedicated research and direct experience, although Kim rarely explains exactly where—or from whom—she learned everything she knows.
Her greatest ability is the creation and manipulation of ectoplasm. Kim can shape this energy into animals that move and fight under her mental command, ranging from packs of translucent wolves to enormous birds, serpents, jungle cats, and creatures with no precise counterpart in the natural world. These manifestations possess a degree of instinctive behavior, but they remain extensions of Kim’s will and vanish when destroyed or dismissed.
Kim can also fashion ectoplasm into protective shields, bindings, platforms, cages, tools, and other temporary constructs. Her finest achievement came after Fear Devil’s physical body was destroyed. Kim created a complete replacement body from ectoplasm, after which Catalyst bound Brandon Hill’s displaced spirit to the new form. The feat demonstrated a level of precision and control far beyond anything she had previously revealed.
Chimera accompanied the Dark Society into the Eternal Expanse while they pursued the Claw. Having spent most of her life working alone, she was delighted by the experience of operating alongside other heroes and eagerly accepted an offer to join the team when the mission ended. She has since embraced the personal side of team membership just as enthusiastically as the heroic one, and she and her girlfriend frequently join other couples within the Society for double-dates.
Chimera spent years creating companions from the substance of ghosts. With the Dark Society, she finally found companions who did not disappear when she stopped concentrating.

Summoning: Ectoplasmic Animals — 12d
Chimera can create animals from ectoplasm and place them under her mental command. These manifestations appear translucent and otherworldly, although their exact color and degree of solidity may vary with Kim’s concentration and emotional state. The animals are not ordinary living creatures. They do not need to breathe, eat, or rest, and they cannot be poisoned or frightened in the conventional sense. When an ectoplasmic animal suffers enough damage to destroy it, its body breaks apart into luminous vapor and dissipates. Kim may create a single large and powerful creature or divide the effect among several smaller animals, subject to the normal limitations of Summoning and the GM’s judgment. Common manifestations include:
- Wolves or hunting dogs for tracking, surrounding enemies, and protecting civilians
- Birds of prey for aerial reconnaissance, retrieving objects, and attacking flying opponents
- Large cats for stealth, pursuit, and powerful close attacks
- Serpents for constricting, restraining, or reaching confined spaces
- Bears, rhinoceroses, or great apes when tremendous strength is required
- Horses or other mounts for transporting people through dangerous terrain
- Marine animals for underwater exploration and rescue
- Fantastic beasts based upon cryptids or mystical animals Kim has studied
The creatures follow Kim’s mental instructions and can operate at a distance, although complicated commands require more attention than simple orders such as “protect her,” “follow that scent,” or “keep them away from the door.”
Summoning is Chimera’s signature power and the center of her combat style. She rarely confronts an enemy alone when she can surround it with an entire spectral menagerie.
Ectoplasmic Constructs — 8d
Chimera can shape raw ectoplasm into temporary objects and structures at up to 8d.
Possible applications include:
- Bridges, ramps, ladders, and platforms

- Keys, tools, ropes, and simple equipment
- Battering rams and blunt weapons

The constructs remain dependent upon Kim’s concentration and eventually dissolve into mist. She cannot ordinarily create complicated functioning machinery, advanced electronics, magical artifacts, or permanent objects.
Ectoplasmic Shield: Armor — 12d
Chimera can surround herself with a dense shell of ectoplasm capable of absorbing bullets, physical blows, energy attacks, and supernatural assaults. The shield may appear as a curved wall, a transparent sphere, overlapping scales, or the spectral outline of a protective animal. Armor 12d makes Kim immune to ordinary attacks rated at 6d or less unless they possess the Penetrating quality.
Entangle: Ectoplasmic Bindings — 6d
Chimera can immobilize an enemy with rapidly forming ectoplasm. These bindings may take the form of chains, coils, adhesive strands, grasping claws, constricting serpents, or the jaws of a spectral beast closing around the target without biting down.
Creating Fear Devil’s Body
Kim’s reconstruction of Fear Devil should not be treated as an ordinary combat use of her powers. Creating a stable, anatomically complete body from ectoplasm was a major ritual feat requiring exceptional concentration, specialized knowledge, and assistance from Catalyst. Kim constructed the vessel; Logan bound Brandon Hill’s spirit to it. Neither woman could have completed the resurrection alone.
Unstable Manifestations
Under severe emotional pressure or in areas saturated with supernatural energy, Kim’s creations may become larger, stranger, or more independent than intended. An ectoplasmic wolf might grow to monstrous size, several animals might merge into a chimerical beast, or unconscious fears might influence the form of her constructs. These manifestations can allow spectacular power stunts, but they may also create complications if Kim loses control of what she has brought into existence.
