Background: The first Crossfire was a spy and thief for hire who originally wore a flying suit and armed himself with an array of weapons. Eventually this Crossfire died and his gear ended up in the possession of a man that had very different ideas about how it should be used.

Jay Endicott was an honest, perpetually broke bail-bondsman who was tired of seeing justice done – or not done – based upon a suspect’s ability to hire an expensive lawyer. He decided to pretend to be the same Crossfire as before, infiltrating criminal activities from the inside. As his alter ego, Jay was able to follow his secret agenda to work for justice in a world turning more corrupt everyday. Jay was also romantically involved with the leader of the DNAgents Rainbow, both drawn together through a deep attraction. Rainbow and the other DNAgents often helped Crossfire with Rainbow helping him in several assignments. His supporting cast includes a collection of colorful oddballs whom Jay aids and bails out at times when necessary. These characters stick faithfully by Jay and are occasionally helpful during his missions.

During one of his early cases, Jay nearly died and was rescued by Rainbow and Amber of the DNAgents. With the help of Dr. Harden at Matrix Labs, Jay was revived – but his blood had to be replaced with a fluorocarbon formula that mimicked his old blood. It did, however, grant him the same immunity to disease that the DNAgents possessed.
