Biography

Ethan Cole was never the kind of kid people noticed. Thin, quiet, and painfully reserved, he spent most of his life fading into the background—overlooked by classmates and underestimated by nearly everyone he met. The one exception was his deep love for animals, a passion encouraged by his mother, a wildlife veterinarian.

That passion took him halfway across the world when his mother accepted a research assignment in Kenya, studying a protected lion population exhibiting unusual behavioral patterns. For Ethan, it was the first time he felt truly alive—observing the pride, sketching their movements, and marveling at the quiet authority they carried.

Everything changed the night one of those lions attacked him.

The creature was larger than the others, its presence unnatural, its gaze unnervingly focused. When it struck, it did not kill. Instead, it wounded Ethan—claws and teeth breaking skin—before retreating into the wild. Ethan survived, but what followed was far worse than death.

Within days, he began to change.

Ethan became a therianthrope, capable of changing his form into that of a powerful were-lion. Three nights each month, Ethan loses all control, becoming fully feral and driven by instinct. During this time, he must be restrained or isolated. While he can transform at will outside the “feral nights,” prolonged time in his were-lion form increases the risk of losing himself. In human form, Ethan is physically weak and vulnerable, lacking the strength or endurance of his transformed state.

Ethan is shy, introspective, and deeply self-conscious. Years of being overlooked have left him hesitant to assert himself, and he often struggles to believe he belongs among stronger, more confident peers. Despite this, he possesses a quiet empathy and a strong moral core, driven by a desire to protect others from harm—especially harm he might cause.

In contrast, his were-lion form embodies raw confidence, dominance, and instinct. This duality creates constant internal tension, as Ethan fears that the monster within him may one day eclipse the person he is trying to be.

During the Necrophage affair, he became a founding member of The Threshold.
