Background:
Cyrus Vale, the director of a black ops government agency called Project: Umbra, managed to collect DNA from several members of the Dark Society – and using a mixture of technology and the occult, Vale grew twisted copies of the heroes. That process produced Voidstar and Wight — but Santa Muerte’s origins were slightly different.
She had been a woman once, a folk healer and death-priestess whose village cursed her as a witch and burned her alive beneath a sky thick with omens. But Death, it is said, fell in love with her. He carried her soul across the veil and tucked it into the folds of eternity — only for her to be drawn back centuries later, pulled into the world once more when Calavera’s magic ruptured the walls of Deadworld. She was meant to return only long enough to deliver a final message… but something refused to let her go. Now she walks again, draped in lace and bone, a revenant unclaimed by Heaven or Hell.
Within the Obsidian Circle, Santa Muerte has seduced the Apostate, becoming his lover in a bid to rule from out of sight. She frequently teases Voidstar, making fun of his inability to plan or speak eloquently. When she met Calavera, the two formed an unlikely friendship, though neither truly trusted the other. In fact, Santa Muerte taught Calavera how to more fully utilize her necromantic abilities.
