Dark Thoughts

So I’m working on Dark Society volume 7 and I’ve been told that that the second Straw-Man book will be out soon. Having a tough week in a lot of ways and a part of me is thinking that maybe I should finally shut down the blog and call it quits in the writing game. I’ve been doing it for 21 years now and while I’ve earned a few fans, for the most part it feels like I’m writing a lot of words that just get flung out into the void. I teach literature and while I’ve never tried to write anything more than fun, escapist fiction, it does sometimes hit home that I’m just not as talented as the folks I read on a daily basis.

On a more fun note, I’ve been anticipating the arrival of the new second edition D6 system and Stalwart 85, a nifty little supers rpg.

    Hi Barry, My name is Steve and I have been reading your stuff for 14 years now. We sometimes chat on fb and I do post when I am reading your work. Went life gets overwhelming I turn to your fun escapist fiction. I have read three or four of your books this year. Sorry I left them pile up. Please do what is right for you but I would like to see you continue to write. I wish your publisher put out your work in a more timely fashion so you could get feedback instead of writing in a vacuum. Do you have any other pulp writers to talk to? Looking forward to Straw man 2! Steve

      Thanks a lot! I do appreciate your posts on Facebook whenever you’re reading a book of mine. It definitely puts a smile on my face. I used to talk to a lot of other pulp writers but the community isn’t what it once was. Not sure if you were a fan of Derrick Ferguson but when he passed, it seemed to bring about a weakening in a lot of the relationships that I and others had built. I’m not sure he ever realized how important he was in the New Pulp community at the time. He was a hell of a writer and a great guy.
