Biography:

Lin Xiaoyu was caught in a terrible transit accident in which her two children-Yunhao and Lili-were tragically killed. Xiaoyu suffered extreme PTSD from the event and spent the next two years unable to move past it, constantly reliving the accident and blaming herself for not reaching them in time. She was convinced that if she’d only had a few more seconds, she could have saved them both.

Employed at the Haidian District Research Institute, Dr. Lin threw herself into her work, which was designed to build a machine that could alter the world on a quantum level. Her husband, Lin Chen, was hurt by the distance that built between them and while she worked longer and longer hours, he began drinking excessively. Their marriage crumbled but neither had the willpower to actually end it.

One night, the machine overloaded and its quantum field interacted with Dr. Lin’s overwhelming wish that she’d been able to slow down or stop time when her children were dying. Somehow, the machine unlocked something within her, allowing her the ability slow down momentum. While this isn’t truly controlling time, it can seem to be so, as she can walk amongst frozen raindrops or stop an explosion at the point at which it begins to expand. She flies by canceling downward momentum and continuously generating controlled upward vectors, effectively “falling in any direction she chooses.”

Once it became clear that she had powers, she was heralded as a hero by the Chinese government. In China, she is known simply as Dr. Lin but the Western news media gave her the name Stasis. Her uniform and dyed hair are meant to remind her of Lili’s favorite color while the symbol on her chest represents Time, which she never has enough of. She’s been active as a hero for two years, meaning it’s been four since her children died.

She is still married, though relations remain strained. She has also recently begun consulting and working with the Dark Society.
