Saturday Matinee: Doc Savage (1975)

DocSavageMovieEvery Saturday I find a movie or clip that I think will appeal to the fans of this blog. Since most of you enjoy action/adventure, I tend to focus on something that falls into that category. This week we’re looking at Doc Savage! Earlier this week, Shane Black (currently of Iron Man 3 fame) announced that he would be writing and directing a new Doc Savage film. Needless to say, this conjures up images of the George Pal film. So let’s bring back a previous Saturday Matinee, shall we?

Back in 1975, George Pal masterminded the making and release of Doc Savage: The Man of Bronze. The film was a disappointment to most, as it was full of camp and some silly interpretive choices. But if you like a lot of cheese with your films, it can be enjoyed for what it is. The following is a “making of” featurette that covers Pal’s thinking about the movie and how some of the important scenes were shot.

It’s not high art but it’s hokey fun, nonetheless. Hopefully, we’ll get a more serious Doc film from Shane Black!
