Writing Update and Recommendations

veronicalakeWork continues on the 12th volume of Lazarus Gray – I’ve passed the 17,000 word mark but there have been days that’s been a real slog. This one wraps up things that go all the way back to volume seven so there’s a lot of moving pieces that have to be dealt with, not to mention the fact that there are nearly a dozen main characters, some of them old favorites, some of them we’re seeing for the first time. I usually write with just the bare-bones of a plot in my head but this one has required me to make a few notes and to actually re-read parts of volumes 4, 7 and 11! I hope to be done with the book by the end of January at my current speed but I might be able to do better than that if I get a lot done during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Fingers crossed.

I should wrap up watching season three of Veronica Mars this weekend. It’s really grown on me and I have to say that I finally see where all the love this series has garnered comes from. It’s wonderful.

Also continuing to watch AHS: 1984 (loving it!), Riverdale, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Those are my favorites at the moment – but I also want to recommend Dolemite is my Name, a Netflix movie starring Eddie Murphy. It was a lot of fun!

Checking in…

camilaSo The Second Book of Babylon was released this weekend and that’s probably a good time for me to say that I’ve started work on the sequel – I’m currently a little over 18,000 words into it. Once I’m done with this, I have a Gothic Romance that I started work on that I might go back to… or I have been dreaming of a return to Sovereign City to pay a visit to Lazarus Gray and company. We’ll see.

I’ve been binge-watching Riverdale lately as I try to catch up on the series. It’s definitely one of my guilty-pleasures.

On the comic book front, I’ve been re-reading a lot of old Ghost Rider comics, mostly from the Nineties and onward. I’m currently reading through the Jason Aaron run and I have a lot of mixed feelings about it — it’s enjoyably written but I hate how we have a gazillion Ghost Riders now and I don’t have a clue how Noble Kale fits into this mess that’s become the ‘true’ history of the Spirits of Vengeance.

Thanks to everyone that’s written to me that they’ve purchased Babylon. I hope you guys enjoy it!

Current Works

41228_900I’m over 17,000 words into the Liberty Guard novel, which features some of the old Centaur Comics’ characters. It’s going well so far and at this rate, I expect to finish up sometime in April or May. I am that point of the novel where I have ideas for things to do after this, though, and it always takes self-control to avoid giving in to them. I’ve been kicking around ideas for a Gothic romance with some pulp elements tossed into the mix. I’m so far ahead of publication with Lazarus Gray that I don’t plan to return to Sovereign until I at least see THE SECOND BOOK OF BABYLON or the eighth book in the Lazarus series in print.

Approved the edits on my story for the Johnny Dollar collection coming from Moonstone… I’m proud of that tale, which I wrote waaaaaay back in 2011, so I’m glad you’ll finally be able to read it.

The lady accompanying our post today is Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica Lodge on one of my favorite television shows – Riverdale.

Various Things

OfficeDepot1 copy 2Welcome back to ye olde blog, my friends!

Yesterday I typed THE END on The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume 8 and shared the files with my editors and publishers at Pro Se. Volume 8 has five stories in it and will clock in at over 64,000 words. It picks up in December 1939 and wraps up in December 1940 as we continue to push towards America’s entry into World War II.

Now I’m turning my eye towards a novella I’m writing that’s part of a new shared universe project at Pro Se. It’s *not* part of my Reese Unlimited stuff so there won’t be any crossover there. I hope it’s something that all of you will really get wrapped up in, though.

And, yeah, there was a small hint there about what it’s about.

After I’ve finished with this, I’m not 100% sure what I’ll work on. I need to come up with a plot for the next Captain Action book but I’m also tempted to work on something involving some elemental characters that’s been percolating in the back of my brain for ages.

Television-wise, I’m enjoying RIVERDALE, THE ALIENIST, CELEBRITY BIG BROTHER and THE ORVILLE. Great stuff all around!
