What’s Going On Now?

barry-reese-1So I finished off ASSISTANCE UNLIMITED: THE SILVER AGE – BROKEN EMPIRE this morning and sent all the files to my publisher. Writing is a funny thing… sometimes you’re not sure how successful something was until you have some distance from it. I think this book has some great moments and some great characters but I’m unsure if the audience will like it enough to want more. If they don’t, I’m certainly busy enough in other areas but I’d still like people to embrace it and demand another Emily Grace adventure.

Next up is working on the Reese Unlimited/AC Comics crossover story. The focus will be on Lazarus Gray, Nightveil and Gravedigger but you can expect some other fun RU and AC cameos along the way.

NIGHTVEIL: THE QUIET GIRLS should be out very soon and I’m excited to see the response to it. I honestly think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written — you guys will have to let me know if you agree.

Reese Unlimited to cross over with AC Comics!

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS’ REESE UNLIMITED AND AC COMICS CROSSOVER ANNOUNCED

AC Comics, one of the longest lived and popular independent comic companies in the industry, and Pro Se Productions have teamed up to bring AC’s characters to life in prose adventures! The first such work, a digest novel by Barry Reese, NIGHTVEIL: THE QUIET GIRLS, is due for release in a matter of days. Pro Se Productions announces today that not only will Barry Reese, the creator of the Reese Unlimited imprint, return to the world of Nightveil, he will do so by bringing AC’s mystical heroine face to face with his own characters, Lazarus Gray and Gravedigger!

“As a longtime fan of Nightveil and the entire AC Comics line,” says Reese, “it was an amazing honor to get to write the character in THE QUIET GIRLS. Now to have the opportunity to cross Nightveil over with my original creations…! Words really can’t describe how excited I am about this project. Believe me when I say that I’m trying my best to make fans of all these characters happy with the end product.“

The as of yet untitled crossover title will appear in early 2018. NIGHTVEIL: THE QUIET GIRLS will appear in coming days and more AC works are in process, including works by Bobby Nash and Gary Phillips, as well as anthologies spotlighting various characters.

“This crossover,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is just an opportunity at greatness too awesome to pass up. To have Bill Black’s Nightveil not only in the more than capable hands of Barry, but to actually have Barry’s own creations fight side by side with her makes for a near perfect storm of New Pulp and Super Heroics. As both a professional and a fan, I am on the edge of my seat for this book.”

The AC/Reese Unlimited Crossover will feature a stunning cover by George Sellas.

Labor Day Updates!

20120407-174323.jpgHello, everyone! I’m enjoying the Labor Day holiday by spending some time with the family but I did want to update you on a few things.

First off, the Captain Action novel that I did with Jim Beard for Airship 27 is currently available. This exciting tale plunges the good Captain into a plot that revolves around nothing less than the Moon Race! It also introduces a few new characters that I’m quite proud of. Please let me know what you think of it!

I’m about 1/4 of the way through writing the first ASSISTANCE UNLIMITED: THE SILVER AGE novel, which will be titled Broken Empire. It’s set in 1964 and carries my pulp adventure universe into the era of superspies.

I’ve recently approved the galley for the seventh volume of Lazarus Gray so I think that will be coming soon — as will NIGHTVEIL: THE QUIET GIRLS! I think both books are among the best I’ve ever done. I’m waiting for Pro Se to announce a fun little project that I’ll be working on for an early 2018 release that will continue my association with both Lazarus Gray *and* Nightveil… how’s that for a tease?!

The third volume of Gravedigger has gone through edits, as well — so maybe we’ll see that before the end of 2017!

Exciting times, my friends. Exciting times!

Updates!

11746dcd0c65886c_Kate-Upton-Elle-2Hello, folks — sorry for the delay in updating the blog but I’ve been pretty busy lately. I did want to give everyone an idea of what’s going on and what will be coming out soon, though.

  • The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume 7 is about to move into formatting. I’ve approved the edits, turned in an author headshot and done all of the back-end stuff that I’ve been asked to do. Hopefully you’ll see it soon.
  • Nightveil: The Quiet Girls is also coming soon. I haven’t seen any edits on it yet but I do know that Pro Se is trying to fast track this one.
  • I’ve been working on The Second Book of Babylon and should be finished with this novel within the month! What’s that? You don’t remember the First Book of Babylon? That’s part of the fun! I’ll tease more about this one soon.
  • I’m about halfway through the writing of The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume 8 and I’m also looking forward to starting Assistance Unlimited: The Silver Age Volume 1 when I’m finished with Babylon.
  • No ETA on the publication yet, but The Adventures of Gravedigger Volume 3 is in the hands of my publisher and hopefully editing work will begin on it soon.
  • My Captain Action novel is likewise in the hands of that respective publisher — I think we’re waiting on Rob Davis’ schedule to clear so he can do interiors on that one.

If you’re curious about a specific project or character, feel free to let me know!

Nightveil: The Quiet Girls Cover Details

Nightveil-The-Quiet-Girls-roughOver the weekend, Bill Black – the creative force behind The Femforce and all of AC Comics – posted the following words on Facebook:

GREAT NEWS! I’ve received the first Pro Se AC Comics character prose novel – NIGHTVEIL: THE QUIET GIRLS! It is fabulously written by BARRY REESE who did an OUTSTANDING JOB! I love it and was mesmerized from beginning to end. It’s like a movie that plays in your mind as Barry’s descriptions are that vivid.

I’m beyond thrilled to know that Bill enjoyed the book. He is, after all, the guy that created Nightveil to begin with! I’ve always enjoyed the character and really wanted to get her right.

He also shared details about the cover — the rough of which you can see accompanying this post. Over on First Comics News, we got to see John Nadeau’s first version of what will eventually be the finished cover. I think it looks pretty spiffy! Once we see the completed image, I’ll be sure to share it with all of you.

What Are You Doing, Barry?

emma-watson-elle-2011-8_thumbI ask myself that all the time.

I finished off the Captain Action novel awhile back and it was sent off to the guys at Airship 27 plus the license holders. Editor-in-Chief Ron Fortier gave the book a big thumb’s up so I think it’s probably on the fast track to getting published. I had a blast writing it and working with Jim Beard.

I also completed the Nightveil novel — “The Quiet Girls.” I’m really proud of that one and I’m hoping that Tommy Hancock at Pro Se and Bill Black at AC Comics approve of what I’ve done. I created a few new characters in this one and I think that some of them would make for good recurring foes and friends for Laura Wright. We’ll see if anybody at AC wants to incorporate the story into the comic book canon.

I’m currently working on the second story for Lazarus Gray Volume Eight. “Wait,” you ask, “shouldn’t that read Volume Seven?” No — I’ve already written book seven and it’s already in the hands of the good folks at Pro Se. It should appear later this year, though I suspect it will be after the third book in the Gravedigger series — also complete and at the publisher.

It’s good to be ahead on deadlines, isn’t it?

If you guys have any questions about upcoming works, feel free to ask away!
