What’s Happening, Barry?

gravedigger_small_colorWell, thanks for asking! I’ll let you know…

Looked over the galley for The Adventures of Gravedigger Volume 3 yesterday. This one will feature another stunning cover from George Sellas and interior art by Chris Batista. I think you guys will really like it.

Working on the final story for the eighth volume of Lazarus and I hope to finish it in the next week or so… then I have to put the pedal to the metal and finish off the first book in a new shared-universe series for Pro Se.

After *that*, I might be able to finally start coming up with ideas for the next Captain Action book from Airship 27. No matter what, it’s going to be another busy year for Reese Unlimited. I hope you’ll be along for the ride with me!

What’s Happening?

gravediggerSorry for the delay in posting lately. Real life has been kicking my behind and my writing has fallen by the wayside. I’m still past the 40,000 word mark on the 8th volume of Lazarus Gray and about 5,000 into a new project but it’s been really slow going. Hopefully things will improve on the wordcount front at some point.

Just finished reading The Midas Legacy, the 12th book in the Chase & Wilde series by Andy McDermott. It was a lot of fun, as usual, but at 600+ pages, it could have benefited from trimming about 150-200 pages. It’s definitely new pulp… but sometimes McDermott forgets that pulp should have momentum!

I believe the next book coming from Reese Unlimited will be The Adventures of Gravedigger Volume 3, which features the judgement of Charity’s Grace soul. I think it’s a really strong entry in the series and I believe that you guys will get a kick out of it.

Stay safe out there, guys!

Things (now with extra STUFF!)

GGPRbanner2-817x350Currently splitting time between a new project for Pro Se that’s part of a shared universe and working on Lazarus Gray volume 8 (which is now over 40,000 words long). Both are going pretty well, especially Lazarus. Volume 7 was a novel-length tale but with this one, I’m going back to having a series of short stories. I’m currently working on the fourth tale for that collection and there will be one more after this one, making for a total of (hold on while I break out the calculator…) five stories.

I’ve been reading (and loving) THE MIDAS LEGACY by Andy McDermott. It’s the 12th book in the Wilde/Chase series and so far it’s shaping up as one of the strongest in awhile. I consider these books to be very good examples of New Pulp and I’m stunned that no one has turned this series into a movie or a television show. I’d watch it!

Seeing lots of “favorite/least favorite” posts of various types out there so I figured I’d jump in with my favorite comic book series of 2017. Here we go:

  • Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (BOOM)
  • Go Go Power Rangers (BOOM)
  • Savage Dragon (IMAGE)
  • Rom (IDW)
  • Defenders (MARVEL)
  • Amazing Spider-Man (MARVEL)

Looking at the list, I have to say that ASM *barely* snuck on the list. It’s been very up-and-down this year. Defenders is getting canceled so there you go… Nobody is more surprised than me to see two Power Rangers books on this list but they’ve been really good! Gives me a nice Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans era vibe and that’s high praise from me. Speaking of Titans, I am reading the ongoing Titans book from Dan Abnett but I alternate between enjoying it and hating it so it didn’t make the list so there’s no DC titles on my best-of. That’s *really* unusual!

What comics did you love in 2017?

Updates & Stuff

harley_readingWelcome back, my friends! As always, things are percolating behind the scenes. I finished off the AC Comics/Reese Unlimited crossover this week and sent that off to Pro Se for their approval. I imagine they’ll have to pass it on to AC for their feedback, as well, so I have no idea when it will be on the publishing schedule.

Speaking of which, I approved edits on Gravedigger Volume 3 ages ago and recently did the same for The Second Book of Babylon so I imagine that both of those will be appearing before too long (though we may be looking at 2018 as ’17 is coming a close very quickly).

So what am I working on currently? Well, I’m still about halfway through the eighth volume of Lazarus Gray — the crossover, in fact, is set between the second and third stories of volume 8! I don’t think Pro Se will let me slip the crossover into that volume, though… I’m pretty sure you’ll get it as a separate adventure. Anyway, that means I *could* work on Laz but at the moment I’m actually doing prep work for a new story that is going to be part of a shared universe with a bunch of fantastic authors. I don’t think I’m allowed to give any more details than that… if the first stories from all of us are well received, the universe might become an ongoing thing but I’ve learned to never count my chickens before they’re hatched. At the very least, you’re going to get one story out of me — but I’m hoping for more!

We still have zero reviews for Nightveil: The Quiet Girls. Surely someone out there has read it… if so, please post a review somewhere and let me know when it’s available! I’ll give you some nice promo here and link back to your blog if you host the review.
