Who Knows What Barry’s Blog Will Cover Today? The Shadow Knows!

shadow_torresWelcome back, my friends!

Earlier today I released Episode 64 of The Shadow Fan’s Podcast — we talk about Howard Chaykin’s upcoming return to the character, respond to some listener feedback and talk about this past weekend’s Middle Georgia Comic Convention. I hope you guys enjoy it.

Work continues on the crossover novel — I’m now over 18,000 words into the story. All the major players are now in motion and I’ll soon be bringing all the heroes together. They’re currently split into two big groups. This one features all new villains and I plan for a couple of them to survive the adventure so they can plague various heroes in the future. Others… well, in classic pulp style, some of these have to meet their justified ends, right?

A lot of folks are asking when The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume Four: Satan’s Circus will be available as an eBook. It’s on the way, I promise! In the meantime, the print edition is out for those who prefer the dead tree version or who simply can’t wait for the electronic form.

Our art today is by the amazing Wilfredo Torres and depicts pulp’s greatest crimefighter — The Shadow!

Monday, Monday…

rook_ron_fortier_smallAnother week begins!

I had a nice day at the Middle Georgia Comic Convention on Saturday — didn’t sell a lot but I got to have a great conversation with Shadow: Year One artist Wilfredo Torres and his wife, got Mark Bagley to autograph an old Amazing Spider-Man comic for me and met a ton of other interesting folks. Definitely a good time.

I also enjoyed the fact that The Adventures of Gravedigger notched two victories in the New Pulp Awards! Will Meugniot won the Best Interior Art award and the character won the Best New Character award. I’m very proud of that and I want to give a special shout-out to Will for doing such beautiful work on the interiors… and George Sellas, whose cover was nominated, as well! Makes me really excited for you guys to see Volume Two later this year…

The new edition of Rabbit Heart has notched its first review and it was posted over at Amazon.ca. Here’s what Pat Casey had to say:

In Rabbit Heart, Barry Reese has delivered another action packed pulp style novel.

Fiona Chapman is a young woman who begins a new life as a member of the Furious Hosts (a mythological group) who mix sex & violence in a never ending hunting game. Wielding a machete , Fiona chases after another member of The Hosts who embarks on a killing spree while looking for a sacred gem.

Ascott Keane (nemesis of Doctor Satan) not only teams up with Fiona to stop this monster but also guides her through this new chapter in her life.

Mr. Reese once again introduces a strong female hero (much like Gravedigger) and brings new life to a public domain character in Keane. As with his previous novels, Reese keeps the pace brisk with a well thought out and entertaining plot. Once you start, you WILL have a problem putting this book down.

I hope to read more stories about Fiona & Keane in a sequel of novels. These characters are at the beginning their adventure and I’m anxious to see how the final battle will be resolved.

This particular novel is not for the timid and is written for mature readers.

A definite 5 out of 5.

Thanks, Pat! I’m glad you enjoyed it — I had a great time writing it and I’m really pleased with the new edition that Pro Se has released.

Our art today comes from George Sellas and appeared in Tales of The Rook Volume One. Lovely, isn’t it?

MGA Comic Con Is Here!

MGALOGOfina_blk_topI’ll be at the Middle Georgia Comic Convention today so please come out and see me! It’s being held at the Coliseum and Convention Center in Macon, Georgia and runs from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. In addition to myself, the Con will be hosting a whole host of other talented folks, including: Mark Bagley, Brian Stelfreeze, Colleen Doran, Tony Harris, Daniel Way, Francesco Francavilla, Jamal Igle, Joseph Linsner, Wilfredo Torres and many, many more! It should be a real blast and I’m definitely looking forward to it.

The entire event is owned and operated by Heroes & Villains Comics and Games, based out of Warner Robins, Georgia. I had a great signing event there a couple of years ago and I definitely recommend you check out the shop if you get the chance.

I’ll have loads of books to sign and sell — and if you’re in the area and have already purchased one of my books, feel free to bring it with you and I’ll personalize it for free.

Monday…?! Yes. It’s Monday.

satans_ad2Hello, my faithful readers! I hope you’re excited about the start of a new week. I’m gearing up for my appearance at this weekend’s Middle Georgia Comic Convention — I now that fellow New Pulp author Bobby Nash will be there, along with a host of comics creators like Mark Bagley, Tony Harris, Colleen Doran and Wilfredo Torres! Should be a fun time. Come out and see me if you’re near Macon, Georgia!

I continue to add to the crossover novel — I’m closing in on the 1/4 mark of the book and I’m really happy with it so far. The most recent chapter was a pretty exciting one featuring Lazarus Gray and company down in the sewers beneath Sovereign.

Speaking of Lazarus, don’t forget that The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume Four: Satan’s Circus is now available in print! It’s a great wrap-up to the storyline that weaves through books 2-4 and I can’t wait to start getting some feedback on it. Be sure to drop me a line or post a review at Amazon if you do read it so I can know if it turned out as well as I think it did!

Our image today features artwork by George Sellas but it’s been tweaked into an ad for Satan’s Circus by the amazing Sean Ali! I think it’s pretty spiffy.

News & Updates!

lg4_cover_final_paint_smallHappy Monday, my friends!

My 2014 schedule is starting to firm up — in addition to appearing at the Middle Georgia Comic Convention later this month (March 15 & 16), I can also confirm that I will be a guest at The Geek Gathering in Sheffield, Alabama during the month of September (20 & 21). The Geek Gathering bills itself as a comic, fantasy, horror, sci-fi and pop culture convention so it hits virtually the categories that I like. 🙂 I’d love to see you guys at either event and if I make more plans to visit cons, I’ll update you here.

In other news, work continues on the crossover novel and I remain pleased with it so far. I stopped and actually re-read everything I’ve written so far and I was very happy with what I saw. We’re moving past the “introducing all the players” part of the story and into the real meat of it and I’m excited to see how it comes together.

Approved a sketch from artist supreme George Sellas this weekend that will eventually develop into the cover for the second Gravedigger book. I think it’s going to be quite snazzy!

Also, received some good news about the upcoming release of Lazarus Gray Volume Four — stay tuned for more! To  remind you just how awesome this book is going to be, check out the cover by George Sellas!
