Zoom, zoom, zoom!

margotThe current novel is progressing well – I’m about 20% of the way through it. That may not sound like much but considering I’ve only been working on it since early February, that’s not bad. Mike Hoffman has already delivered the cover art and it’s gorgeous! This novel takes a character introduced in Lazarus Gray Volume 11 and spins her off in her adventure. Yes, I know, you’ve been waiting for those Lazarus Gray stories for quite awhile but I’ve heard from Pro Se that there are plans to start rolling these books out on a very regular basis soon.

I saw the new Harley Quinn movie recently and *loved* it. Don’t believe any of the haters – it’s a wonderful film and you really need to go see it. Highly recommended.

Also getting a recommendation is the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. After all the fuss about the speedy hero’s look early on, the movie turned out to be a fun, family-oriented action film. We dug it.

Our post today is accompanied by an image of Margot Robbie, who stars in the Harley Quinn film.

Updates & Stuff

harley_readingWelcome back, my friends! As always, things are percolating behind the scenes. I finished off the AC Comics/Reese Unlimited crossover this week and sent that off to Pro Se for their approval. I imagine they’ll have to pass it on to AC for their feedback, as well, so I have no idea when it will be on the publishing schedule.

Speaking of which, I approved edits on Gravedigger Volume 3 ages ago and recently did the same for The Second Book of Babylon so I imagine that both of those will be appearing before too long (though we may be looking at 2018 as ’17 is coming a close very quickly).

So what am I working on currently? Well, I’m still about halfway through the eighth volume of Lazarus Gray — the crossover, in fact, is set between the second and third stories of volume 8! I don’t think Pro Se will let me slip the crossover into that volume, though… I’m pretty sure you’ll get it as a separate adventure. Anyway, that means I *could* work on Laz but at the moment I’m actually doing prep work for a new story that is going to be part of a shared universe with a bunch of fantastic authors. I don’t think I’m allowed to give any more details than that… if the first stories from all of us are well received, the universe might become an ongoing thing but I’ve learned to never count my chickens before they’re hatched. At the very least, you’re going to get one story out of me — but I’m hoping for more!

We still have zero reviews for Nightveil: The Quiet Girls. Surely someone out there has read it… if so, please post a review somewhere and let me know when it’s available! I’ll give you some nice promo here and link back to your blog if you host the review.

Our image today is of the amazing Margot Robbie, in her role as Harley Quinn.

My Favorite Comicbooks of the Moment

blogentry-33-0-97909700-1387243912_thumbI read a lot of comics. What follows is not a full list of what I’m reading but it is a full list of what I’m LOVING right now. In order to be included here, the books have to be running right now (i.e. currently published) and have to be ongoing titles — so no graphic novels, though I am including limited series if they haven’t wrapped up yet.

In no particular order:

Superior Spider-Man (Marvel)

The Shadow: Year One (Dynamite)

Eternal Warrior (Valiant)

X-O Manowar (Valiant)

Superman/Wonder Woman (DC)

Detective Comics (DC)

Batman and… (DC)

Supergirl (DC)

Justice League (DC)

Aquaman (DC)

Worlds Finest (DC)

Harley Quinn (DC)

Thunder Agents (IDW)

Forever Evil (DC)

Earth 2 (DC)

Yeah, a lot of DC. While I’m not loving everything they’re doing, I am enjoying a lot of it. And I’m reading many other books, too, but the ones above are the ones that excite me the most when I’m checking to see what’s coming out soon.

What are you guys reading?

Saturday Matinee: The Animated Lives of The Batman

Beware-the-Batman-Full-Poster-ImageEvery Saturday I find a movie or clip that I think will appeal to the fans of this blog. Since most of you enjoy action/adventure, I tend to focus on something that falls into that category. This week we’re looking at Batman’s animated incarnations! Now, Batman has been in a LOT of cartoons over the years and I’m not gonna be able to cover them all. But here’s a nice sampling of his various appearances.

First up let’s look at the 1968 The Adventures of Batman. This is a slightly choppy look at Batman and some of his main allies & enemies from this show:

Now, many people first learned of Batman through the Super Friends show. Here’s the 1973 opening to that classic series:

Batman: The Animated Series is rightly considered the best Batman cartoon of all time. This is part of “Mad Love,” one of the most celebrated episodes — it features Harley Quinn & the Joker:

The Batman was a rather divisive series but I really enjoyed it. Here’s part of a Black Mask episode:

And finally, here’s the trailer for Beware The Batman, which debuts later this month:
