A Year of Change

onceIt’s amazing to think we’re already in September. This year, with all its change, has been going by so fast. When the year began I was married… living with my wife, son and mother-in-law… now I’m closing in on six months of being on my own in a new place. On top of all that, I’ve sold pretty much every character I’ve ever created to Pro Se Productions.  It’s scary how quickly things can change.

So what’s been going on? Let’s see:

I’ve been spending most of my television time lately binging Brooklyn Nine-Nine (love this show!) and Veronica Mars, neither of which I had ever watched before.

Went to Dragon*Con in Atlanta for Labor Day weekend. Saturday was an absolute horror show. Crowds were awful, with a two-hour wait to get into the vendors area and us failing to get into practically every panel we wanted to see. Sunday was much better, though my bank account might disagree!

Haven’t written much this week. I don’t know if it’s just the writing doldrums or some side effect of having sold the characters but not even writing Lazarus Gray has appealed to me. Hopefully I’ll break out of it soon.

My son turns thirteen this coming weekend – again, time flies!

Looking forward to the new installment of IT this weekend. So far my favorite films of the year have been Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Ready or Not.

I have a new podcast that I’ll be working on that I’ll reveal soon – I hope you’ll give it a listen when it’s ready for its public debut!

What have *you* been doing?

Busy, Busy!

duckSorry for the lack of updates lately – I’ve been super busy as school has started back up again and I’m not only teaching high school American Literature and Ninth Grade Literature, but I’m also working a second job. I have managed to keep working on the 11th volume of Lazarus Gray, though – I’m closing in on the 50,000 word mark and hope to finish it soon.

I’ll be attending Dragon Con this year – though not as a guest! I haven’t been since 2013 when I was a guest for the second time. This time around I’m looking forward to just being able to enjoy the spectacle as a fan. If you’re going to be at the Con in Atlanta over the Labor Day weekend, let me know and perhaps we can get together to talk pulpy adventures!

Our image today is of Donald Duck and is by legendary artist Don Rosa – whom I look forward to seeing again at Dragon Con!

Book Signing Today!

banner01_smallIf you’d like to meet me, I’ll be at Avalon Comics in Macon, Georgia today! I’ll be appearing there from 11:30 am to around 1:00 pm. The store is located at 2384 Ingleside Avenue and is a great place to come and hang out. It’s also just down the road from Red Lobster, which is always a good thing, right?

I’ll be bringing along copies of all three Lazarus Gray books, plus The Adventures of Gravedigger and several other items. And if you already own one of my books, I’d be glad to personalize it for you for free.

The last time I was there, I had one of the best days ever in terms of moving product — so I’m hoping for a similar turnout this time around. Of course, last time was for Free Comic Book Day but you never know. This particular promotion is their “5th Annual We Couldn’t Afford to go to Dragon*Con Sale” and everything in the store (aside from snacks) will be 50% off. Normally I’m actually at Dragon*Con but I elected not to submit an application this year. While I love Dragon*Con, it’s getting so expensive and so huge that I decided to skip it this time around.

If you miss me at Avalon, you can still catch me at the Crossroads Writers Conference on October 5, 2013 and at COMO on October 10, 2013, plus at the Georgia Literary Festival November 9, 2013.

Hope to see you soon!

Con Update

Dragon*Con continues! It’s been a blast so far — yesterday I was on my first panel and this afternoon I’ll be on another. This one will focus directly upon New Pulp so I’m looking forward to that. It’s scheduled for 4:30 pm this afternoon so if you’re at the Con be sure to come see me and other New Pulp “superstars” like Bobby Nash, Van Plexico and James Palmer!

Since I’m so busy here, I’ll post a little something to brighten your day – a fan-made animated version of The Rocketeer. It’s all kinds of awesome.

Dragon*Con 2012!

Dragon*Con is here! I’ll be in Atlanta all weekend long, hanging out with my good friends Bobby Nash, Van Plexico and lots more. Follow me on Twitter (@barryreesepulp) to read about all my adventures!

Here’s the panels I’ll be on:

Title: Pulp History
Description: From western penny mags to early sci-fi digests, great literature has come on cheap paper. Past, present & future collide in serialized dime fiction.
Time: Sat 11:30 am Location: International BC – Westin (Length: 1 Hour)

Title: New Pulp
Description: What is new pulp and why are we enjoying a resurgence of the genre at this time?
Time: Sun 04:00 pm Location: Greenbriar – Hyatt (Length: 1 Hour)

Please try to come by and say hello! I’ll have books with me that you can buy and get personalized!

Dragon*Con is bearing down upon me so I thought I’d share a few things before I end up lost in the Con:

Because I’ll be in Atlanta, the Best Seller List won’t be posted until next TUESDAY. Sorry for the delay but for this one week only, no list will be compiled until Tuesday morning.

If you’re going to be at Dragon*Con, I will have books with me in case you’d like to buy one.

Sales on Die Glocke started strong and it spent well over a month in the Top Ten on the Best Sellers list. Now, I assume all of you have already bought it because sales have ground to a resounding halt. Oh, well. 🙂

Supposed to be doing edits on my Johnny Dollar story for Moonstone. I’ll be honest that I’d been mostly unfamiliar with the character before being drafted onto the project but I enjoyed the episodes I listened to and found some interesting hooks into his personality with my story — of course, most of those hooks were apparently wrong 🙂 So I’m revising that now.

I expect to get the final Gravedigger image from George Sellas soon — the approved look is AWESOME and really sets her apart from the other members of my pulp universe.

Currently reading the newest book by Steve Berry — as soon as I’m finished with it, I’ll be diving into Jim Beard’s Captain Action novel.
