Writing Update and Recommendations

veronicalakeWork continues on the 12th volume of Lazarus Gray – I’ve passed the 17,000 word mark but there have been days that’s been a real slog. This one wraps up things that go all the way back to volume seven so there’s a lot of moving pieces that have to be dealt with, not to mention the fact that there are nearly a dozen main characters, some of them old favorites, some of them we’re seeing for the first time. I usually write with just the bare-bones of a plot in my head but this one has required me to make a few notes and to actually re-read parts of volumes 4, 7 and 11! I hope to be done with the book by the end of January at my current speed but I might be able to do better than that if I get a lot done during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Fingers crossed.

I should wrap up watching season three of Veronica Mars this weekend. It’s really grown on me and I have to say that I finally see where all the love this series has garnered comes from. It’s wonderful.

Also continuing to watch AHS: 1984 (loving it!), Riverdale, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Those are my favorites at the moment – but I also want to recommend Dolemite is my Name, a Netflix movie starring Eddie Murphy. It was a lot of fun!

A Year of Change

onceIt’s amazing to think we’re already in September. This year, with all its change, has been going by so fast. When the year began I was married… living with my wife, son and mother-in-law… now I’m closing in on six months of being on my own in a new place. On top of all that, I’ve sold pretty much every character I’ve ever created to Pro Se Productions.  It’s scary how quickly things can change.

So what’s been going on? Let’s see:

I’ve been spending most of my television time lately binging Brooklyn Nine-Nine (love this show!) and Veronica Mars, neither of which I had ever watched before.

Went to Dragon*Con in Atlanta for Labor Day weekend. Saturday was an absolute horror show. Crowds were awful, with a two-hour wait to get into the vendors area and us failing to get into practically every panel we wanted to see. Sunday was much better, though my bank account might disagree!

Haven’t written much this week. I don’t know if it’s just the writing doldrums or some side effect of having sold the characters but not even writing Lazarus Gray has appealed to me. Hopefully I’ll break out of it soon.

My son turns thirteen this coming weekend – again, time flies!

Looking forward to the new installment of IT this weekend. So far my favorite films of the year have been Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Spider-Man: Far From Home and Ready or Not.

I have a new podcast that I’ll be working on that I’ll reveal soon – I hope you’ll give it a listen when it’s ready for its public debut!

What have *you* been doing?
