What’s Up Next?

dead_of_nightSo this week I hope to put the finishing touches on a novella that I’ve been working on for awhile… I’m looking forward to putting it behind me. I’ve enjoyed the characters but I always end up reaching the point where I’m ready to move on to the next project.

Speaking of projects, I have a few that are in various stages of the pipeline at various publishers. Pro Se has completed edits on The Adventures of Gravedigger Volume 3 and The Second Book of Babylon… they also have manuscripts for Assistance Unlimited: The Silver Age, The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume 8 and a Reese Unlimited/AC crossover that brings together Lazarus Gray, Gravedigger and Nightveil. Moonstone also has a Johnny Dollar story from me that’s waiting for ages to be published. Fingers crossed that 2018 will be the year for that one!

When I finish the current work-in-progress, I have nothing immediate that I have to work on. I might begin brainstorming ideas for the next Captain Action novel… and I have a few ideas for new projects, though I definitely don’t need to start any more series!

The Strange Tale of… Catalyst!

Catalyst loResCatalyst, at least in the form of Nathaniel Caine, is one of my oldest characters. I created him way back in 1985 and he went through several permutations, popping up in various stories, comic book scripts, fanfiction and roleplaying campaigns over the years. When I finally became a professional writer, it was only a matter of time before Nathaniel would enter my Reese Unlimited universe. Why does he still linger, when so many of my other characters from my youth have fallen by the wayside? I’m not sure. He was the first creation of mine that I felt was worthy of saving… plus I always loved his green color scheme. Credit has to go to Cari Reese for taking my original (and very derivative) costume designs and merging them with the Kirby-esque Asgardian and New Gods looks that I desired. Other artists have depicted him since then but all of them have used her costume design.

So who or what is… The Catalyst?

Updates & Stuff

harley_readingWelcome back, my friends! As always, things are percolating behind the scenes. I finished off the AC Comics/Reese Unlimited crossover this week and sent that off to Pro Se for their approval. I imagine they’ll have to pass it on to AC for their feedback, as well, so I have no idea when it will be on the publishing schedule.

Speaking of which, I approved edits on Gravedigger Volume 3 ages ago and recently did the same for The Second Book of Babylon so I imagine that both of those will be appearing before too long (though we may be looking at 2018 as ’17 is coming a close very quickly).

So what am I working on currently? Well, I’m still about halfway through the eighth volume of Lazarus Gray — the crossover, in fact, is set between the second and third stories of volume 8! I don’t think Pro Se will let me slip the crossover into that volume, though… I’m pretty sure you’ll get it as a separate adventure. Anyway, that means I *could* work on Laz but at the moment I’m actually doing prep work for a new story that is going to be part of a shared universe with a bunch of fantastic authors. I don’t think I’m allowed to give any more details than that… if the first stories from all of us are well received, the universe might become an ongoing thing but I’ve learned to never count my chickens before they’re hatched. At the very least, you’re going to get one story out of me — but I’m hoping for more!

We still have zero reviews for Nightveil: The Quiet Girls. Surely someone out there has read it… if so, please post a review somewhere and let me know when it’s available! I’ll give you some nice promo here and link back to your blog if you host the review.

Our image today is of the amazing Margot Robbie, in her role as Harley Quinn.

A Fun Little Thing…

To the left is an image by Mark Propst, showing some of the heroes of my Reese Unlimited imprint in a fantasy story where they’d be teaming up with the Justice Society of America and The Invaders, all united against a cosmic cube wielding Red Skull! It’s an homage to Justice League of American # 209.

I really love it and appreciate Mark taking the time to do it. Hope you get as big a kick out of it as I did!
