What’s Going On Now?

barry-reese-1So I finished off ASSISTANCE UNLIMITED: THE SILVER AGE – BROKEN EMPIRE this morning and sent all the files to my publisher. Writing is a funny thing… sometimes you’re not sure how successful something was until you have some distance from it. I think this book has some great moments and some great characters but I’m unsure if the audience will like it enough to want more. If they don’t, I’m certainly busy enough in other areas but I’d still like people to embrace it and demand another Emily Grace adventure.

Next up is working on the Reese Unlimited/AC Comics crossover story. The focus will be on Lazarus Gray, Nightveil and Gravedigger but you can expect some other fun RU and AC cameos along the way.

NIGHTVEIL: THE QUIET GIRLS should be out very soon and I’m excited to see the response to it. I honestly think it’s one of the best things I’ve ever written — you guys will have to let me know if you agree.

Timeline of my pulp adventure universe (updated 10/20/2017)

1750 – Guan-Yin embarks on a quest to find her lost father, which takes her to Skull Island [Guan-Yin and the Horrors of Skull Island].

1776 – Johann Adam Weishaupt forms The Illuminati. He adopts the guise of the original Lazarus Gray in group meetings, reflecting his “rebirth” and the “moral ambiguity” of the group. In Sovereign City, a Hessian soldier dies in battle, his spirit resurrected as an headless warrior.

To the left is an image by Mark Propst, showing some of the heroes of my Reese Unlimited imprint in a fantasy story where they’d be teaming up with the Justice Society of America and The Invaders, all united against a cosmic cube wielding Red Skull! It’s an homage to Justice League of American # 209.

I really love it and appreciate Mark taking the time to do it. Hope you get as big a kick out of it as I did!

Reese Unlimited to cross over with AC Comics!

PRO SE PRODUCTIONS’ REESE UNLIMITED AND AC COMICS CROSSOVER ANNOUNCED

AC Comics, one of the longest lived and popular independent comic companies in the industry, and Pro Se Productions have teamed up to bring AC’s characters to life in prose adventures! The first such work, a digest novel by Barry Reese, NIGHTVEIL: THE QUIET GIRLS, is due for release in a matter of days. Pro Se Productions announces today that not only will Barry Reese, the creator of the Reese Unlimited imprint, return to the world of Nightveil, he will do so by bringing AC’s mystical heroine face to face with his own characters, Lazarus Gray and Gravedigger!

“As a longtime fan of Nightveil and the entire AC Comics line,” says Reese, “it was an amazing honor to get to write the character in THE QUIET GIRLS. Now to have the opportunity to cross Nightveil over with my original creations…! Words really can’t describe how excited I am about this project. Believe me when I say that I’m trying my best to make fans of all these characters happy with the end product.“

The as of yet untitled crossover title will appear in early 2018. NIGHTVEIL: THE QUIET GIRLS will appear in coming days and more AC works are in process, including works by Bobby Nash and Gary Phillips, as well as anthologies spotlighting various characters.

“This crossover,” says Tommy Hancock, Editor in Chief of Pro Se Productions, “is just an opportunity at greatness too awesome to pass up. To have Bill Black’s Nightveil not only in the more than capable hands of Barry, but to actually have Barry’s own creations fight side by side with her makes for a near perfect storm of New Pulp and Super Heroics. As both a professional and a fan, I am on the edge of my seat for this book.”

The AC/Reese Unlimited Crossover will feature a stunning cover by George Sellas.

Blade Runner 2049 – and a new review!

Saw BLADE RUNNER 2049 today and loved it! I was worried that it might somehow mar the original but it was quite the opposite – I actually think this one was better than the first film! The lovely Ana De Armas stars as Joi in the film and an image of her accompanies this post.

Meanwhile, Ray Bara posted this review of LAZARUS GRAY VOLUME SEVEN on Amazon:

Another Barry Reese New Pulp Classic! 5 Stars

Barry Reese continues to churn out New Pulp gems. Lazarus Gray Volume Seven was awesome! Assistance Unlimited is back in full force, literally and figuratively. They’re all here: Lazarus, Samantha, Morgan, Eun, Abby Cross, Eidolon, and Black Terror. They’re joined by the mystic, Sheridan Masters. They fight several great villains: their recurring enemy, Femi; the Mexican criminal mastermind, El Demonio; and the King in Yellow, the lord of another terrible dimension. Lazarus Gray is his usual pillar and strength and righteousness. He defeats the bad guys and leads his team with his power and wisdom. The action in this novel is fierce, constant, and enjoyable. Assistance Unlimited saves Sovereign City with style, grace, and energy. Sheridan Masters is a nice new character. Femi is a wonderful recurring foe, though she might have finally met her match … Or has she? Reese has done it again. Another action-packed adventure that leaves me wanting more. Read this one and anything else Barry Reese writes!

Another 5-Star Review!

lg01_lazarus_solo_with_textBestselling author Mat Nastos took time out of his busy schedule to review The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume Seven on Amazon recently. Here’s what he had to say:

REESE PULLS OFF NEW PULP GREATNESS ONCE AGAIN 5 Stars

Read through through Kindle Unlimited and loved it enough that I’m going to buy it as well. I have been a fan of the Lazarus Gray series since Barry Reese published the first volume years ago. Reese writes rich characters and great action. The only bad thing about Lazarus Gray Volume 7? It looks like this is going to be the last entry in the series for a while.

This book is great for fans of new pulp adventure and was perfect for me!

Thanks, Mat! I’m glad you continue to enjoy the series. I’ve written the first two stories in what will eventually be Volume 8 but I have several projects that I have to work on before we get around to wrapping that one up. Thanks again for the kind words.
