Work on the new novel has been continuing though at a pretty slow pace. I’m very happy with what I’ve been doing but all the uncertainty in my daily work life has made me focus on other things. Unfortunately, the writing stuff isn’t paying the bills so I’ve had to put it on the back-burner for the most part. I haven’t been ignoring it, though!
What’s next on the horizon? I was asked to turn in some back cover text for the fourth volume of Lazarus Gray the other day so I’m assuming that it’s moving forward. I know the edits on it are done and all the artwork (by the amazing George Sellas!) is in so it’s just a matter of getting it formatted and laid out, then put on the busy Pro Se schedule.
On another front, I’ve been reading lots of old comics lately (mainly because I can’t afford to buy new ones!) and for the most part, I’ve been sticking to old Spider-Man books. I recently read volume two of the Amazing Spider-Man Essentials (the end of the Ditko run and the beginning of the Romita Sr. one), the Mark Millar Spidey run, the entire Mackie/Byrne/Romita Jr. reboot run and now I’m digging through Marvel Team-Up Essential Volume One. In that vein, I thought I’d tell you my Top 10 Favorite Spider-Man Villains.
Why?
‘Cause it’s my blog and I like lists.
So here we go:
Barry’s Top 10 Favorite Spider-Man Villains
10. The Jackal
9. Black Tarantula
8. Kingpin
7. Green Goblin (Harry Osborn)
6. Hobgoblin (Jason Macendale)
5. Sandman
4. Green Goblin (Norman Osborn)
3. Venom (Eddie Brock)
2. Doctor Octopus
1. The Hobgoblin (Roderick Kingsley)
Feel free to throw in your own selections!
I’ve always preferred Hobgoblin to Green Goblin. Hoby has a great costume design. I also liked the Vulture. The Lizard has such a great backstory that I’ve often wondered why he didn’t have his own series. His is a classic tragic horror tale.
The Lizard… I’ve liked some stories with him but I find him too one-note for my tastes.
I’m glad to see you include The Jackal – he’s my favorite! In addition to the various Goblins, I would also have to go with Mysterio, The Lizard and Chameleon.
I came close to including Mysterio.
I’ve always liked his look. Pure Ditko.
Some of my favorites as well. I always felt that Kraven was one of Spidey’s more dangerous foes.
Kraven was really hit or miss with me. When used correctly, he could be a lot of fun. But all too often, he came across as kind of goofy.
True, now that I think about it.
Ah! And the Lizard!
