First up, the mysteriously-named “Amazon User” gave a 5-star review to The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume Three: Eidolon. His review was:
Thought it couldn’t get any better
Started reading Barry Reese only about 5 months ago and have now have read everything I could find with his name on it. I was hoping Lazarus Gray would be almost as good or as good as Barry’s Rook series. My son gave me Lazarus Gray volumes 1,2 and 3 for Christmas. It seems I saved the best Reese works for last for my reading pleasure. The stories are tight, fast paced with plenty of action. All the characters are wonderful, the like the heroes and hate (and love) the villains. Barry Reese’s style and story telling improves with everything he writes. If you like pulp, new pulp or are just interested, The Adventures of Lazarus Gray will leave you more than satisfied. The only thing I don’t like about it is that now I have to wait for the next volume. Lazarus rocks!!!
Thanks for the review! I’m really glad that you’ve enjoyed the series and I think you’ll find Volume Four to be just as good, if not better. I think it’s the finest entry yet in the series but I’m the author so I’m always a bit biased. Hopefully you’ll have the chance to read it soon!
Meanwhile, Desmond Davies gave a 4 star review to The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume One. Here’s what he had to say:
Overall enjoyed the book. If I have a complaint it would be the repetition of the characters details and history from story to story. The stories are fun and fast paced. Looking forward to volume 2.
The stories in this book were originally written with the intention of having them appear in magazines first and then get collected later. For that reason, I definitely tried to reintroduce the characters in each story — and since sometimes the stories are later removed and used elsewhere as freebies, kindle giveaways, etc., I continue to do that later in the series since I never know how it will be released down the road. Hope that makes a bit of sense. Thanks for the review!
