Barry Reese

Pulp Writer Extraordinaire

lg01_lazarus_solo_with_textWith my schedule the way it is I don’t know if I’ll ever get to this but I have an idea… an idea for a Lazarus Gray novel set in 1954. It would take place in Miami and it would start with his death. From there we’d see the path of the man who kills him, a guy who makes a reputation for himself with a sudden act of violence that puts his name on everyone’s lips. Lazarus would feature only in the background as we see how this killer’s life is turned upside down by his “victory.” Gray’s old companions want revenge while the mob — whom this guy figured would be grateful enough to set him up for life — has varied and surprising reactions.

I’d call it The Bad Guy.

It would be a crime noir kind of thing with the Cold War in the background and with lots of Fifties-culture flair.

I’ve held off on it because I’m not sure I want to set Gray’s future in stone the way I did with The Rook. But using a new character in his place doesn’t have the same ooph, I don’t think.

Anyway, it’s just something that’s been floating in my head.

Well, nobody ever HAS to stay dead. Especially somebody named Lazarus.

I agree with drsivana99. No one has to stay dead in the Reese Universe….especially if the tale takes place on Earth 2!
