Saturday Matinee: The Spider!

SPIDER cover#4 smllEvery Saturday I find a movie or clip that I think will appeal to the fans of this blog. Since most of you enjoy action/adventure, I tend to focus on something that falls into that category. This week we’re looking at several videos related to the classic pulp character, The Spider. The Master of Men is a classic figure from the golden age of pulp and many fans regard him as the apex of characterization and action for the hero pulps. I’m partial to The Shadow myself but there’s definitely a visceral thrill to The Spider’s adventures that is undeniable.

First up, we have the trailer for a series of fan films made by Bernardo Alcover Camacho. The entire series is in Spanish but I think this trailer for the three-episode storyline gets the point across regardless of language:

Next up, we have a collection of action sequences from the 1938 classic serial, The Spider’s Web. You can find the entire serial on Youtube but this one captures some of the most dramatic scenes from the series and is a good & quick look at what the storyline was like:
