The Rook Volume 6 Gets A New Review!

Darkendale Raven is back with another review! This time, he posted the following about The Rook Volume Six on

When I saw this volume up for sale, the cover touched off a memory, so I went and got my Encyclopedia of Super Heroes. Sure enough, one of the color plates in the book is a comic cover featuring a woman called “Lady Luger”, a dead ringer for Käthe, German leader of The Furies. Along with the Nazi Doc Savage, Sun Koh, this trio of genetically augmented women manage to wreak quite as much havoc for the Rook as some of his supernatural foes! I really enjoyed this book, the longer adventure had so many twists and turns that I couldn’t put the book down until I’d read it all. Great job, Barry!

Very glad you enjoyed the book! The cover was definitely meant to be an homage to all those sleazy pulp covers of the past — Lady Luger actually wasn’t intended as a specific influence. But after googling the character, I can certainly see the similarity.

I had a lot of fun writing The Furies — I think they’re easily amongst my all-time favorite Rook villains that I’ve created.

Thanks for reading and reviewing!
