With The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume 2: Die Glocke now out and burning up the sales charts, I can tell you with some certainty about some things that are coming your way in the future. I’m breaking them into a few different sections: Lazarus Gray, The Rook, Moonstone & Airship 27. Let’s get started, shall we?
LAZARUS GRAY – Volume three is completely finished, stories and art. I have no idea where it fits into the packed Pro Se publishing schedule but I think early 2013 is most likely. The next book will be called The Adventures of Lazarus Gray Volume Three: Eidolon. Go look it up if you don’t know what Eidolon means I’m now working on the first story for Volume Four (late 2013? Early 2014?) and there’s no end in sight. Volume Three will feature two stories (one novella and one novel length) and I think that’s how Volume Four is shaping up, too. As for the Origins comic project, I have no idea. I really don’t.
THE ROOK – Tales of The Rook has been very successful, spending seven weeks on the New Pulp Best Seller List and actually hitting the top spot in its first week of release. This has obviously led to everyone asking when’s volume two of the Tales anthologies coming out! I hadn’t really planned on doing more than the one but if people want more, who am I to say no? So I’m thinking about inviting more writers for volume two — my first thought was to give first crack to the guys from volume one but I think I might try instead to do an entirely new set of writers. So in the end, you’d get two books of completely different takes on the character. Aside from that, Tommy Hancock will be writing a Rook novel that should be out before the end of the year (part 1 of a trilogy) and Pro Se has all the art & stories for The Rook Volumes One and Two so maybe they’ll get the new editions out before the end of the year.
MOONSTONE – I contributed a Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar story to Moonstone but I don’t know when it will see print. I have also contributed stories to two other Moonstone projects, neither of which I can talk about. One of them has gone through one round of edits, the other is waiting.
AIRSHIP 27 – I’m currently reading The Phantom Detective: Phantoms in Bronze in anticipation of doing a 15,000 word story for Airship 27 featuring (of course) The Phantom Detective. This is for a 2013 book. I’m looking forward to the chance to handle the character, who was very long-running but who doesn’t seem to get the same respect as the other major heroes of the pulp era. So don’t be surprised if you hear me talking about ye olde Phantom Detective a lot in the near future, as I begin work on the character.
Our art today is by George Sellas and will be featured in the new edition of The Rook Volume One.
