It’s been a little over a year since DC Comics announced that they would be rebooting their universe and once all the wailing and gnashing of teeth was over, it turned out that several extremely good books were the result. What follows are books that I personally really, really enjoy. I don’t read all 52 titles, though I think I’ve sampled at least one issue of all of them (even the ones now canceled).
Here’s my list of the Ten Best Books of the New 52.
3. Green Lantern
4. Worlds’ Finest
5. Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE
6. Batman and Robin
8. Justice League
10. Batman: The Dark Knight
I know, I know. Where’s Action Comics? Swamp Thing? Animal Man? All three of those are critically acclaimed and I’ve read two issues of each of them — but they just didn’t grab me. The ten above are the ones I’m most excited about reading every month. The biggest surprises for me have been Frankenstein, Batwing and The Dark Knight — the first two because I wasn’t sure what to expect from them and the last one because I’d tried the pre-Flashpoint version and hated it — but for some reason, it seems more fun this time around. The Bat books in general are outstanding right now — I’m reading more Batman than I have in *years*.
Honorable mentions: Nightwing, Legion of Super-Heroes.
